My first series of ink and pastel drawings sought to express, all at once, the sudden intensity of desire, movement, and the energy of the line.

Perhaps they were reconnecting with my readings of Bataille and Sade when I was twenty.

There is no explosion quite like the first stroke of a pencil on a blank sheet of paper.
